This course provides delegates with the theoretical and practical skills to undertake non-licensed
works with ACM’s. Persons requiring this type of training would
include trade operatives undertaking tasks with ACM’s as defined in HSG210 and in accordance with CAR 2012 Reg 3 (2).

Who needs this qualification?
Workers who may need this level of information, instruction and training include all types of tradesmen whose work will require
them to disturb asbestos-containing materials, such as:
-Drilling holes in asbestos materials
-Laying cables in areas containing undamaged asbestos materials
-Removing asbestos containing floor tiles
-Cleaning or repairing asbestos cement sheet roofing or cladding

Why is this training important?
Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 requires every employer to ensure that adequate information, instruction and training is given to their employees who are or who are liable to be exposed to asbestos, or who supervise such employees. The course enables employees to take necessary measures to safeguard themselves and others affected by work activities.

Learning Outcomes
Successful candidates will be able to:
-Understand what works are classified as non-licensed
-Understand the control measures that will be required to undertake non-licensed work with ACM’s
-Understand how to undertake specific tasks involving disturbance of ACM’s, including:
-Drilling holes in AIB and textured coating
-Removal of small AIB panels
-Removal of asbestos cement based products
-Removal of articles containing asbestos such as floor tiles, gaskets
-Understand the requirements to prevent the spread of asbestos and control exposure
-Understand waste handling procedures
-Understand how to adequately decontaminate after working with non-licensed ACM’s
  • Is asbestos awareness training a legal requirement?
      • Training in Asbestos Awareness (Category A) is a legal requirement for anyone who may come into contact with asbestos but is not expected to handle it. It is appropriate and a requirement for an employee who must avoid work that may disturb asbestos during normal work.
  • Who is at risk for asbestosis?
      • Now that asbestos is no longer in use, those most at risk of asbestos exposure include those who may damage asbestos remaining in older buildings, including caretakers, electricians, and demolition workers.
  • What is cat b asbestos training?
      • Those who are performing non-licensed and notifiable non-licensed work are trained in Category B training in the safe handling of asbestos.
  • What is included in asbestos awareness training?
      • Workers and supervisors need information, instruction, and training on asbestos awareness in order to avoid disturbing asbestos during any normal work which could harm the fabric of the building.
  • When was asbestos legally banned in the uk?
      • Since 1999, all forms of asbestos have been banned in the UK; amphibole asbestos has been banned since 1985. Amphibole (blue and brown) asbestos is much more hazardous than serpentine (white) asbestos. asbestos is not considered harmful when in large pieces and undamaged.
  • Does asbestos awareness training expire?
      • The majority of asbestos awareness certificates expire after one year. This is in line with refresher training for licensable and non-licensable work which should be given at least every yea
