Monitor SLG works on the Highways and roads

This New Roads & Street Works Act (NRSWA) Signing, Lighting and Guarding (SLG) training course is designed for Operatives and Supervisors who must erect or monitor the erection of signing, lighting, and guarding for work on the roadways and highways. A training group may contain only Operatives however, a minimum of 2 Operatives must be available for Supervisors to carry out observation exercises for monitoring signing, lighting, and guarding activities, which enables the most effective development of these candidates.


WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Any person erecting, monitoring Signing, Lighting and Guarding within roads, streets and pathways or anyone who wishes to advance their working knowledge of street works.


WHAT WILL YOU LEARN

  • New Roads and Street Works Act
  • Basic principles of signing, lighting, and guarding
  • Traffic control measures
  • Practical use of the Code of Practice
  • Portable traffic lights
  • Practical use of equipment
  • Identify and use correct traffic control measures
  • Erect and dismantle signing, guarding, and lighting safely and in accordance with the supporting Code of Practice
  • Correctly and confidently operate the equipment used

COURSE DETAILS

DURATION: 1 Day

DELIVERY METHODS: Open courses across the Midlands

ASSESSMENT: A high proportion of discussion and simulated assessments supplemented with video and classroom-based tutorials and progress tests. Please note, Operatives will be assessed by way of practical tests and oral questioning and Supervisors by written assignments and observation exercises.

CERTIFICATION: Street Works Qualifications Register Card (SWQR) through CABWI – Awarding Body for the Water & Utilities Industries which is renewable every five years

COMPETENCY: Summarise the requirements of the New Roads and Street Works (NRSW) Act, erect or monitor the erection of signing, lighting, and guarding for work on the roadways and highways.


FUNDING SUPPORT

SHORT COURSE GRANT: This course is eligible for the following short course grant via CITB:

  • Signing, Lighting and Guarding: £60 Per person
  • Operative (Full 5-day course): £1,040 Per Person
  • Supervisor (Full 5-day course): £900 Per Person
  • Locating and Avoiding Underground Apparatus (Cat & Genny): £140 Per person

Note: You must be a CITB levy payer.

More grant is payable for Concrete Slab & Hot Lay (Unit 008/015 & 007).

SKILLS & TRAINING FUND: Are you a CITB-Registered employer, up to date with your Levy return and employ between 1-250 direct staff or CIS (No PAYE). If you answered yes, this training may be offset with funding as part of an application for between £2,500 up to £25,000 for training your workforce.
