NPORS Card Schemes Explained
The NPORS scheme offers cards for:
NPORS Trained Operator
The NPORS Operator Card is a record of the training or assessment an individual has undertaken that proves their ability to safely operate an item of plant machinery/equipment. Once the NPORS Technical tests have been completed an NPORS Trained Operator Card will be issued and is valid for two years.
NPORS Competent Operators
The NPORS Competent Operator card shows employers that you are competent to operate your chosen plant vehicle. It demonstrates that you have the skills to use the machinery, have the Health & Safety Awareness and real world experience.
This NPORS card is an upgrade from the Trained Operator card, which is valid for only 2 years. During this period, you must complete the relevant National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) to progress. The NVQ demonstrates that you are competent to perform your job to the required standard. Once upgraded, the NPORS Competent Operator card is valid for 5 years from the date of application, with all categories listed on the card sharing the same expiration date.
NPORS is recognised across multiple schemes and is a CSCS partner (Don’t forget you can add the logo to your card).
How to Renew a Competent Operator Card
The Competent Operator card is valid for 5 years and can be renewed.
To renew your card, you must:
- ✅ Hold a valid, non-expired card.
- ✅ Pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment test (within two years of the card application).
- ✅ Pass the NPORS Renewal Test for each category held (Single or multiple options available in one day).
