NVQ Description

NVQs in Plant and Lifting Operations are competency-based qualifications used to demonstrate your experience and skill in a specific type of plant machinery or lifting on a live site.

Our Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations as an Appointed Person (AP) is designed to assess your competence across varying aspects of preparing and planning a variety of lifting plans required for general lifting operations in Construction.

Appointed persons work closely alongside other lifting team members on a construction site to ensure that all lifting operations are carried out safely.

The CPCS Red Trained Operator card is valid for 2 years, during which time you are required to undertake the relevant plant NVQ to upgrade to the Blue Competent Operator Card. On completion of your NVQ qualification, along with passing the relevant CPCS tests and the CITB HS&E test (within the last 2 years), you will be able to apply for the Blue CPCS card. This will not only demonstrate you can work and operate safely, but also boost career and earning potential.


Who Will Benefit From Attending

Any person who has current experience and is looking to acquire their Level 5 NVQ and gain a blue competence card. The qualification will assess your competence in your current job role. Therefore, you must be working as an Appointed person, or be about to, to complete the NVQ. You must also be aged 16 or above to enrol.


NVQ Details

  • Duration: The NVQ duration is based on your ability to gather the relevant evidence to complete the qualification, and can be completed at your own pace.
  • Delivery Methods: This NVQ is completed on site and either through a digital e-portfolio platform or a traditional manual paper based portfolio.
  • Assessment: An Assessor will use a variety of methods to assess your competence including visual observations, Q&A, professional discussions, previous paperwork and process evidence and witness testimonies.

  • Certification: Upon Successful completion delegates will receive an accredited NOCN Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operators -Planning Lifts (AP)


What Does the NVQ Entail

The NVQ comprises of 7 units in which you must complete by demonstrating your evidence against this set criteria. Each units contains many different questions about different aspects of planning lifts. The 7 units are:

  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Evaluating and confirming work methods.
  • Identifying and planning plant and machinery.
  • Health, Safety, Welfare and Environment in relation to lifting operations.
  • Planning lifting activities.
  • Planning project work.
  • Planning work and resources.

What Will You Gain
