The EUSR approved Supervision of Utilities Works – Construction Operations covers all aspects of supervising on a single site, or multiple sites, when undertaking works involving Utilities. As the only approved EUSR provider to deliver this course, it is the benchmark for planning and supervising all aspects of utilities works and includes overviews on locating and safe digging methods.

The standard has been derived from the following National Occupational Standards:

  • EUSMUNC12 – Supervise Utilities Networks Construction Operations Across Multiple Sites
  • EUSMUNC06 – Locate & Avoid Utility Services for the Utilities Networks Construction Sector
  • EUSPU3044 – Locate and Identification of Underground Utility Services in the Electricity Power Utilities Sector
  • EUSMUNC043 – Carry Out Work on Underground Cables in the Electricity Power Environment
  • EUSMUNC07 – Excavate and Maintain Holes and Trenches for Utilities Network Construction
  • EUSMUNC007 – Excavate and Maintain Holes and Trenches for Complex Operations in Gas Network Construction

It also incorporates the relevant requirements of HSE guidance documents:

  • HSG47 Avoiding Danger from Underground Services & GS6 Overhead
  • HSG150 Health and Safety in Construction
  • HSG 65 Management Systems
  • Best Practice (BPAUS, USAG, LSBUD)

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Managers, supervisors, or safety professionals who are required to oversee, manage, or support utilities works in construction. This course is also advised for leading clients across the Tier One construction spectrum and Principal Contractors overseeing contractor works.


WHAT IS COVERED

  • Module 1: Standards, Legislation & Support – Understanding statistics and key legislation and supporting guidance across the works, including Primary and Secondary legislation such as CDM. Includes an introduction to other associated legislation and useful guidance.
  • Module 2: Hazards and Risk – Recognise hazards and risks associated with the works. Comprehensive view across all aspects of utilities. Able to assess risk and implement control measures relevant to utilities.
  • Module 3: Planning and Communication – Management system overview HSG 65 (PDCA) with a full insight into bespoke handbook and planning measures. Explore BPAUS, and other planning principles. Gain an understanding of the utilities lifecycle, safe systems of work and pre-briefings, statutory undertakers, communication, and more.
  • Module 4: Supervising Detection and Safe Digging of Utilities – Gain an understanding of PAS, locating and detection of services, and safe digging expectations. Understanding the supervisory component and what’s expected from locating and safe digging.
  • Module 5: Accident and Near Miss Reporting – Accident/Strike reporting and investigation principles. Senior review advice and how to embark on a proactive culture rather than reactive.

  • DELIVERY METHODS: Open Course
  • NUMBER OF LEARNERS: 8 learners per day.
  • ASSESSMENT: Learners are assessed through a theory assessment.
  • CERTIFICATION: Upon successfully completing this course, you will receive an approved EUSR photo ID card with this qualification stated on the back of the card and a digital app version (Vircada).
  • LSBUD: Receive complementary utilities mapping (Larry) supported by LSBUD.
