EUSR Category 1 & 2 – Locate Utility Services (HSG47) & Implement Safe Excavating Practices

This comprehensive EUSR course combines both Category 1 – Locate Utility Services (HSG47) and Category 2 – Implement Safe Excavating Practices. It covers the essential training and assessment needed for safe detection and excavation of underground utility services, utilising recognised and approved methods. The course follows key National Occupational Standards and incorporates relevant HSE guidance.

Delivered by experienced tutors with extensive backgrounds in Construction, Utility, and Civil Engineering, this course offers both theoretical knowledge and practical training in a realistic environment, ensuring you are equipped to handle these tasks safely and effectively.


WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This course is designed for managers, supervisors, safety professionals, and operatives who are responsible for overseeing or performing tasks involving the detection of underground services and safe excavation practices.


WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • How to interpret utility plan drawings, symbols, and coded information
  • The safe use of location equipment to detect a range of underground services
  • The hazards associated with underground services and how to mitigate risks
  • Effective site marking and preparation before excavation
  • Safe digging techniques using both hand tools and hand-held power tools

COURSE DETAILS

DURATION: 9 Hours

DELIVERY METHODS: Open Course | On-Site.

NUMBER OF LEARNERS: Up to 8 learners per day.

ASSESSMENT: A mix of theory and practical training.

CERTIFICATION: Upon completion, learners receive an EUSR photo ID card detailing their qualification.

  • Short Course Grant: Eligible for a £140 CITB short course grant (Tier 2 | Grant Code: GET3049)
  • Skills & Training Fund: CITB-registered employers with 1-250 staff may be eligible for funding between £2,500 and £25,000 for workforce training.

  • EUSMUNC07 Excavate and Maintain Holes and Trenches for Utility Networks Construction
  • EUSGNC007 Excavate and Maintain Holes and Trenches for Complex Operations in Gas Network Construction
  • EUSMUNC06 Locate and Avoid Services for Utilities Network Construction
  • EUSEPUS044 Location and Identification of Underground Utility Services in the Electricity Power Utilities

It also incorporates the relevant requirements of HSE guidance documents:

  • HSG47 Avoiding Danger from Underground Services
  • HSG150 Health and Safety in Construction
