Our Abrasive Wheel Train The Trainer course has been designed and structured to comply with the requirements of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) and the Health and Safety Executives publication ‘Safety in the Use of Abrasive Wheels’ (HSG17) and to safely and correctly train internal staff for a handheld angle grinder, with reference to power saws and other grinding machines.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Any person who wishes to train their internal employees in Abrasive Wheels.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN
This course is split into 4 CORE MODULES over a two-day period:
Module 1: Candidates will receive the 4-hour course as it should be delivered at site level.
Module 2: Candidates will then receive further in-depth knowledge and understanding in Abrasive Wheel information.
Module 3: Candidates will be taught the basic principles of how to deliver and assess effective teaching sessions.
Module 4: Candidates will be required to deliver a 30-minute micro-teaching session on day 2 that meets the standard of quality, knowledge, and skill set required to deliver these courses in the future.

- Marking of Abrasive Wheels and the British Standard Marking System
- Speed
- Hazards and Precautions to be taken
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Storage and Handling of Abrasive Wheels
- Inspection and Methods of Testing for Damage
- Abrasive Wheel Machine Components
- Guarding
- Specific Mounting Procedures
- Practical session where each candidate will be instructed and assessed on their ability and competence in Abrasive Wheel usage. (No cutting or grinding will take place)

- Principles of Teaching
- How to plan and deliver a course
- Principles of Assessment
- Quality assurance
COURSE DETAILS
DURATION: 2 Days
Note: If you have attended one of PGL’s other Train The Trainer Courses, your course will be reduced to approximately 1 ½ Days due to already completing Module 3 (You will not need to resit this module but will need to complete Module 4 per course).
DELIVERY METHODS: Open Course.
NUMBER OF LEARNERS: 8 learners per day.
ASSESSMENT: Learners are assessed through a mix of theory and practical training.
CERTIFICATION: Upon successfully completing this course, you will receive a PGL Approved qualification.
RESOURCES: All candidates upon completion of the course will receive via SharePoint a course presentation, a lesson plan, assessments (theory and practical), and any handouts relevant to the topic.
