Our bespoke Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT & Genny) Train the Trainer course has been designed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and training capability to train and assess gold standard CAT & Genny training to their own workforce to upskill, maintain competency, and drive down poor training quality. This 2-day course will give would-be trainers the confidence to deliver these courses to the highest standard and meet their own organisational training needs and operational outputs.


WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Any person who wishes to train their internal employees or subcontractors in the safe and correct use of Cable Avoidance Tools and associated equipment.


WHAT WILL YOU LEARN

This course is split into 4 CORE MODULES over a two-day period:

Module 1: Candidates will receive the 4-hour course as it should be delivered at site level.

Module 2: Candidates will then receive further in-depth knowledge and understanding across the Safe System of Work when working around buried services to underpin wider familiarity and enhance delivery.

Module 3: Candidates will be taught the basic principles of how to deliver and assess effective teaching sessions.

Module 4: Candidates will be required to deliver a 30-minute micro-teaching session on day 2 that meets the standard of quality, knowledge, and skill set required to deliver these courses in the future.

  • Underground Services – Identification Methods
  • Regulations with respect to Detecting and Tracing Underground Services
  • Reasons for using locators
  • Hazards arising from the use of Cable Avoidance Tools and Signal Generators and precautions which should be observed
  • Identification of types and limitations of Cable Avoidance Tools and Signal Generators
  • Implications of damage, handling, and transporting of equipment
  • Inspecting, calibration, and testing of equipment
  • The methods of safe use of pipe and cable location equipment, along with basic locating techniques
  • Safe working practices
  • Practical session where each candidate will be instructed and assessed on their ability and competence in using the CAT & Genny in the local area
  • Learning theories and preferences
  • Principles of Teaching
  • How to plan and deliver a course
  • Principles of Assessment
  • Quality assurance

COURSE DETAILS

DURATION: 2 Days

Note: If you have attended one of PGL’s other Train The Trainer Courses, your course will be reduced to approximately 1 ½ Days due to already completing Module 3 (You will not need to resit this module but will need to complete Module 4 per course).

DELIVERY METHODS: Open Course.

NUMBER OF LEARNERS: 8 learners per day.

ASSESSMENT: Learners are assessed through a mix of theory and practical training.

CERTIFICATION: Upon successfully completing this course, you will receive a PGL Approved qualification.

Resources: All candidates upon completion of the course will receive via SharePoint a course presentation, a lesson plan, assessments (theory and practical), and any handouts relevant to the topic.


OTHER

Remember that once you have completed your TTT courses with PGL Midlands, you have the option to sign up your business to our quality and certificate service to support your business’s training matrix, certification, and quality assurance. See our Training Academy page for more information. This service is not available to freelance trainers, but you may still attend the course.
