Face fit Testing

Face Fit Testing is suitable for anyone who wears respiratory protective equipment (RPE) on either a frequent or infrequent basis in the workplace.

Face Fit Testing can be done at our training centres or at your own premises.

Certification issued to successful candidates.

When  Fit Testing be Carried Out?

Face Fit Testing can be carried out in the initial stages of selecting RPE, where an untested face piece is already in use or when the wearer has any significant facial changes (i.e. weight gain or loss, facial hair growth, etc).

Fit testing does not need to be done annually but it is recommended that face piece wearers receive annual refresher training covering the selection, use & maintenance of their mask.

When face pieces are issued on an individual basis, it is recommended that they receive an individual assessment on their own face piece.

Please note that in order for the face fit tests to work, the trainee MUST NOT eat, drink or smoke for at least 30 minutes before the test is performed. They must also be clean-shaven as stubble will prevent a good seal and the face fit test will fail. Trainee’s must bring their own half mask.

Who is Face Fit Testing for?

Anyone working with Respiratory Protective Equipment.

Duration 20-30 minutes

  • What is face fit testing?
      • The face fit test is a process of examining respiratory protective equipment to determine if it provides adequate protection to the wearer. In face fit testing, there are two types: qualitative (taste test) and quantitative (particle counting). A face fit test is essential for anyone who wears respiratory protective equipment.
  • Why do i need a face fit test?
      • The purpose of face fit testing is to ensure the best protection possible against hazardous materials. In this way, you can ensure that your mask seals well to your face, reducing the likelihood of any harmful particles entering it and being inhaled.
  • Why can’t you eat before a face fit test?
      • No smoking, drinking, eating, or chewing gum 15 minutes before the test, as this could affect the results; No beards or stubbles where the mask seals because this affects the fit (some goatee beards may be ok, depending where the mask sits. on the wearer; there may also be an issue with longer sideburns); A test is required for each different type of mask – so anyone wearing both a half mask and dust mask needs two tests; A test must be performed for
  • Is it a legal requirement to have a face fit test?
      • Yes, face fit testing is a legal requirement for anyone who wears a tight (or close) fitting mask for work.
