The CPCS Appointed Person (A61) Training Course covers the essential principles of planning and managing lifting operations in line with industry regulations and best practices. It provides a comprehensive understanding of lifting equipment, risk assessment, and the development of safe and efficient lift plans. The course ensures that lifting operations are carried out safely, legally, and effectively.
Through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical exercises, participants will gain the knowledge required to take responsibility for lifting operations.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The CPCS Appointed Person Training Course is designed for supervisors and managers responsible for lifting operations. This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the appointed person’s responsibilities and equips you with the knowledge and skills needed to plan, manage, and oversee lifting operations safely and effectively.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN
- Observe regulations and Codes of Practice
- Follow safe systems of work including method statements
- Take personal responsibility
- Describe different types of cranes and associated terminology
- Understand crane documentation
- Understand crane stability, duty charts and safety devices
- Appreciate tower cranes
- Observe British Standard 7121 Safe Use of Cranes Guidelines sections 1, 2, 3 and 4
- Recognise the role of appointed persons
- Plan a lift
COURSE DETAILS
Duration: 5 days
Delivery Methods: Open Course
Numbers of Learners: Up to 8 learners per day.
Entry Requirements: Learners must have passed the Manager Health, Safety and Environment Test (MAPS) within the last 2 years, prior to course start date. Good understanding of spoken and written English.
Assessment: Mixture of classroom-based teaching and practical exercises followed by one day assessment – CPCS technical tests.
Certification: Learners who successfully pass the CPCS technical tests will receive a Red CPCS Trained Operator Card, valid for two years.
To progress to a Blue CPCS Competence Card, you must gain on-site experience and complete an NVQ Level 5 within those two years. The Blue Card is renewable every five years, demonstrating your ongoing competence in lifting operations.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This course provides essential knowledge and training for those responsible for planning and overseeing lifting operations. It supports compliance with industry standards and legislation but is not a substitute for advanced engineering or crane operator qualifications.
