NRSWA – Streetworks Operatives Course

This 5 day New Roads & Street Works Act (NRSWA) for Operative training course provides delegates with the skills and knowledge to perform operative duties safely and to the standards prescribed by the current NRSWA Act and relevant guidance.

  • (LA) – Location and avoidance of underground apparatus.
  • (O1) – Signing, lighting and guarding.
  • (O2) – Excavation in the highway.
  • (O3) – Reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials.
  • (O4) – Reinstatement of sub-base and road base in non-bituminous materials.
  • (O5) – Reinstatement in cold-lay bituminous materials.
  • (O6) – Reinstatement in hot-lay bituminous materials.(Extra Charges Upon Request)
  • (O7) – Reinstatement of concrete slabs.(Extra Charges Upon Request)
  • (O8) – Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways.

COURSE DETAILS

DURATION: 5 Days

DELIVERY METHODS: Open Course

ASSESSMENT: A mix of practical and theoretical assessment throughout the course.

  • A high proportion of practical exercises for operatives with continuous oral and assessment, supplemented with video and classroom-based tutorials.
  • A NRSWA training group may contain a mix of both Operatives and Supervisors. Sessions will be varied within the overall framework to allow the most effective development of the candidate.

CERTIFICATION:Street Works Qualifications Register ID Card (SWQR) and a CABWI certificate of attendance detailing the units completed – Awarding Body for the Water & Utilities Industries which is renewable every five years.

COMPETENCY:Summarise the requirements of the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA), select appropriate PPE & equipment, perform duties of each unit and/or qualification as prescribed by current legislation, and ACOPs where applicable and provide a safe working environment for themselves and others.


FUNDING SUPPORT

SHORT COURSE GRANT: This course is eligible for the following short course grant via CITB:

  • Operative (Full 5-day course): £1,040 Per Person (Depending on units covered)
  • Signing, Lighting and Guarding: £60 Per person
  • Locating and Avoiding Underground Apparatus (Cat & Genny): £140 Per person

Note: You must be a CITB levy payer to claim a short course grant. PGL Midlands are an approved ATO and will claim all grants on your behalf.

More grant is payable for Concrete Slab & Hot Lay (Unit 008/015 & 007).

SKILLS & TRAINING FUND: Are you a CITB-Registered employer, up to date with your Levy return and employ between 1-250 direct staff or CIS (No PAYE). If you answered yes, this training may be offset with funding as part of an application for between £2,500 up to £25,000 for training your workforce. Statutory undertakers have a duty, under section 81 of NRSWA, to maintain apparatus in the street to the reasonable satisfaction of the street authority, having regard for the safety and convenience of traffic, the structure of the street and the integrity of apparatus in it.
